El Mexicano (Woodside)
64-13 Roosevelt Ave
Woodside, NY
Decent but standard and uninspiring. The chips were puffy and apparently made of flour tortillas - they were appealing in a strange way. There was something nice about the rice - which is saying something since I don't usually eat white rice on principal...I ate all the rice. All of it. There is a grocery next door. Next door in an attached to the restaurant sorta way. And a bar, they have a bar. With alcohol apparently. And a new name. The neon stills says El Mexicano but on a recent trip walking past they have a new awning that says "Montezuma" or something similar...

Good but a bit bland veg. tacos (beans and rice). Raj's tacos were bland but torta was good. Spanish speaking abilities or good pointing necessary.

Yum. Very fresh and tasty. Salsa bar. Beans were a bit undercooked but otherwise good.

Yes. The best. Even with zucchini in their tacos they still win. Go early - they are a restaurant/bakery and close at 8. For those meat eaters among you, which is very likely the majority word from Raj is: "La Flor's Carne Enchilada tacos are the best spicy porks I've yet consumed" Ah, La Flor.

Taco Fiesta (Sunnyside)

Friendly and nice decor but rather lackluster - lacks depth. Not much of a vegetarian selection.I faintly remember there being potatoes in my burrito.

Tacos Mexico (Astoria)
3208 38th St.
Astoria, NY
(718) 956-1745
Homemade chips and excellent pico de gallo. Tasty and huge burritos but a bit bland. They use feta cheese. Tacos come with guac. I've only been here once. Its Heather's neighborhood, her expert take: "In stiff competition with a higher-end Mexican place across the street, the place is always deserted. The quesadillas are unappealing and overpriced. The television is annoying."

Tacos Veloz (Woodside)
61-17 Roosevelt Ave.
Woodside
Extraordinarily inconsistent. Used to be tasty, but the last few times I've been there the atmosphere was depressing and the food was bad to marginal. It has been really really good in the past, so every now and then....

Update: There is no longer any evidence of Tacos Veloz except the smell of the tortilla factory.

Part 2: La Hacienda has shown up in its place. Haven't eaten there yet, waiting to win the lotto.

The current favorite. Consistent, tasty and open until 6am. What more could you ask for? I'd tell you what is in their tacos but somehow I forget even though I've eaten them the most. They are full of tasty goodness. The banana shakes...yum.

Tierras Mexicanas (Woodside)
65-18 Roosevelt Ave
Woodside, NY 11367
(718) 651-4052
Sturdy chips, fresh salsa. Vegetable burrito...was going real well except the tough tortilla until I hit the motherload of frozen vegetable mix. On a second visit the frozen vegetables were gone replaced by potatoes and soggy peppers and tomatoes. An improvement but not exactly spectacular. Raj's non-vegetarian meals have been on about the same level...

Tulciniga 3 (Corona)
40-10 Junction Blvd.
Corona, NY 11368

Decent but a bit bland. Large food counter downstairs with more seating upstairs - waitress service in the upstairs section.

Tulciniga 4 (Astoria)

Astoria, NY 11106

Smaller in physical size than its Corona counterpart but includes a small grocery selection - I think does more with less would be accurate. Tacos were spicy - lots of peppers. Next time I need to ask for no celery (she asked if we wanted "everything" - if only I had known...) I have an aversion and there was a bit too much.

Viva El Mariachi (Astoria)
33-11 Broadway
Astoria, NY 11106

Can't beat the name, eh? Good chips (but salty) and pico de gallo. They use frozen overcooked vegetables but burritos and tacos come with guacamole which goes a bit toward covering it up. The last visit the taco vegetables appeared to not come out of a bag, though still overcooked. I recommend the cheese though, is tasty. This also is Heather's turf: "The cactus tacos are a novelty but not especially tasty. The cheese tacos get fairly high marks. Breakfasts are tasty and large." Having had both the cactus and the cheese tacos I must concur, having never had breakfast i must defer - as with the chilli rellanos which she wishes to add are the best she has ever had. I just re-read that, If I didn't know better I would think that I had been reading really bad poetry or something. Good God. I'm sorry.

Damn Flaky Hippies
First visit was decent but lackluster, 2nd visit was...well, out back they have a garden, its a nice garden. To get to it involves going through the kitchen and down a flight of stairs. Most of the seating is actually in the garden, and being summer, its preferred seating. Now the one waitress ends up going up and down these stairs a million times. Every time she had to go to the kitchen, get change, whatever. Everyone is outside, everything she needs for them is up those stairs. Needless to say she looked exhausted. We ordered burritos, they had a weird, green, distasteful sauce on them. When we left, the owner or manager or whatever called us kids. I'm 30.
