Benny's Burritos (East Village)
6th and A
serviceable
mediocre, lacks spunk
New York Mission-esque style, overpriced but seems friendly and comfortable. Heather finds their spinach burrito delicious and their mango salsa wonderful. I'm just going to trust her on that one. I have had some tasty drinks there.

Never again. Raj took two bites of his bean & cheese taco and threw it away. Cheap and icky. Not that cheap is always icky, in fact cheap is preferred. But this...at least we didn't get sick.

Could be good except for crucial fuckups such
as canned roasted red peppers and stale chips. Reasonable prices for the
'hood, although on the way to the L we passed a place that looked
better.....but turned out not to be

It was far too salty to
even come close to being able to tell if it might be good otherwise. and
then of course there was the upset stomach....

Actually I've been to the one in the East Village a couple o times. It was say, better than the Cosmic Cantina but...y'know, it just didn't occur to me to put Burritoville in until someone reminded me. Unremarkable but safe.

It seems I was here once many moons ago - I remembered it as a hippy restaurant on a corner, the food was decent though not spectacular. When I went back to check it out again, it looked like it had recently(?) moved half a block, was now order at the counter, and served not really very good food, fresh as it may try to be.

Salsa tastes like
ketchup. Burnt salty cheese and lots of it. Only had worse once. Bland
beans. Soggy tostada. Muddy burrito. Good god I don't even want to think about it.

Not so good - icky margaritas, icky tacos - stale tortillas that had been shoved in the oven for a bit so they got all kinda hard in an over-cooked kinda way, mediocre burrito - more of a local crowd than The Hat (El Sombrero).

Not too cheap, tex-mexy. Thank Raj for his better memory:"they're doing what they can to make things seem classy, but it isn't quite working. Serving Corona in a wine glass next to a completely forgettable burrito under low light does not warrant the kind of prices they charge." Its true, its all true...It felt kinda like when you go out to dinner with your grandparents in a small town or something...

Bad to Mediocre. Heather gives a thumbs up to their margaritas. Well, not literally. It was email and what she really said was that she found them enjoyable.

Margarita on the rocks tasted like lime-aid. Decent for NY Hippy-ish Cal-Mex, at least if you happen to be right there.

Take out only, tortillas and a small but good selection of not always easy to find grocery items. The burrito was decent, but disappointing.

Good Chips, salsa bland but fresh. Good
margaritas (rocks). Decent and has potential, but not very exciting. Many
many beans. Second visit at East Village location was just too Tex-Mexish heavy cheesy to want to go back.

Decent enchilada style burrito. good depth of flavor for the style. Not so good margaritas, but then, there is always beer. Decent tacos. Tasty salsa. Its a good neighborhood standby. Worth walking across Manhattan for (especially if its late and Uncle Moe's is closed) but I wouldn't change boroughs. It can be inconsistent, I don't recall it ever being inedibly horrible, just disappointing and frustrating. The best service is likely when its busier. There are several locations - the one I've been to is the 1st Ave. location. The others locations may be a bit cheaper as a trade for no table service.

Not bad - only had a taco. Reminiscent of midwestern mom tacos - sauce of taco bell - reminded me of Fresh Tortillas but not as bland

Fun, friendly and a good selection of fillings and what not. Tortillas tend to be dry but otherwise good. Little salsa bar. They close kinda early, around 9 or 10.
